There is no admission fee to visit Gaomei Wetlands or walk on the pier.
Gaomei Wetlands is located in Qingshui District, Taichung. It covers an area of 1,500 hectares and is rich in natural resources. Gaomei Bicycle Trail
The Gaomei Bicycle Trail runs along Qingshui Dam and the seawall to Gaomei Wetland, with a total length of 1.7 kilometers. The lane is adjacent to Qingshui Dam and Gaomei Wetland. In addition to being able to have a bird’s eye view of the entire Gaomei Wetland, it is also a good place to watch birds and the sunset. It is a great place for tourists to relax.
Gaomei Wetlands Visitor Center
If you have time before waiting for sunset, you may want to visit the Gaomei Wetlands Visitor Center. There’s a cute fiddler crab statue outside that you should definitely take a picture. It sells simple food and cultural and creative products, and introduces the history and ecology of Gaomei Wetland. There is an observation deck on the second floor of the Gaomei Wetlands Visitor Center.

The Seawall Trail is open 24 hours.
The Boardwalk is open from approximately 08:00 to 18:00. Due to high tide, the closure will take 3 to 4 hours. Closure times will vary depending on the tide times each day.

Before you head to Gaomei Wetland, remember to check the tide table and opening hours on the Taichung City Government website to avoid being unable to enter.
When is The Boardwalk Open?
The opening hours of the boardwalk are calculated based on the sea tide time of Gaomei Wetlands. The opening and closing times of the boardwalk are subject to decision by on-site staff based on sea conditions.
The boardwalk will be closed 1.5-2 hours before high tide.
The boardwalk reopens 1.5-2 hours after high tide.
For example, if the high tide time is 10:00, it means that the boardwalk will be closed from 08:30 and will not be reopened until 11:30.
The Best Time to Visit
This place is suitable for visiting at any time of the year. In autumn and winter, the sea breeze is very cold and fewer people come here, so you can enjoy bird watching. Sunset is the most popular time to visit, but it’s best to avoid going midday, especially during the hot summer months. Locals like to go early in the morning when crowds are the least. There are many tourists coming here every weekend and holiday.

For convenience, almost all Foreign tourists will choose a day tour to Gaomei Wetland. Don’t doubt it, Gaomei Wetland one-day tour is your best choice.
If you live in Taipei, you travel to Taichung without renting a car. The easiest way you can reach Gaomei Wetland is by taking a day tour that includes watching the sunset. Because you are not familiar with transportation, your round trip could take up to 5-6 hours. If you live in Taipei, I recommend taking a day tour. This way you can have fun without worrying about which station to get off and transfer to another bus, and then you can sleep peacefully on the car.

By TRA Train + Bus
Take the Hai Line train → get off at Qingshui Train Station → Take bus 178 or 179 and get off at Gaomei Wetland → walk about 100 meters → arrive at the entrance of the Gaomei Wetlands boardwalk.
