Huang, also known as “Grandpa Rainbow,” painted everything from animals and flowers to people, creating a lively, fantastical world that gradually attracted attention. His goal was to prevent the government from demolishing the village, as many of the military dependents’ villages were being torn down to make way for new developments.
The colorful murals quickly caught the public’s eye, and soon Rainbow Village became a symbol of resilience and creativity. Over time, the local government and the public rallied to preserve the village, and it has since become a popular cultural and artistic landmark in Taichung.
